Terms: We realize that when you are dealing with professionals like doctors, lawyers, or audiologists many technical terms used may confuse you. Hear is a list of commonly used terms in audiology.
Audiological Evaluation - Includes air conduction, bone conduction, and speech discrimination testing. Utilized for determining extent and type of hearing loss.
Tympanometry - Measures middle ear compliance and is most commonly used to detect the presence of middle ear effusion and other anomalies.
Reflexes - Performed in conjunction with Tympanometry, this test predominately measures the stapedial reflex.
Central Auditory Processing Evaluation - Looks beyond hearing loss and assists in assessing central auditory processing dysfunction. Children from age five to adult can be tested utilizing our battery of tests.

Auditory Brain Stem Response (ABR) - Electrophysiological test that measures the integrity of the acoustic nerve along the auditory pathway. Utilized to detect retrocochlear disease.
Electrocohleography - Electrophysiological test usually performed in conjunction with auditory brain stem response testing as an indicator for endolymphatic hydrops (commonly associated with Meniere's Disease)
Facial Nerve Evaluation - Electrophysiological test that measures the integrity of the facial nerve. For example. This test can be utilized in the evaluation and management of the Bell's Palsy patient.
Electronystagmography (ENG) - Commonly used in the assessment of the dizzy patient. Can help to rule out a cervical spine. Peripheral vestibular, or a central problem.

Hearing Aid Consultation - "Communication Evaluation" Utilized when a hearing impaired individual needs to have communication needs evaluated. Please sign the medical clearance line at the bottom of the referral form when requesting this service.
Vetibular Rehabilitation - Maneuvers performed to re-align the otoconia. This therapy has been shown to help the patient who has dizziness due to peripheral vestibular pathology. Visual therapy is also utilized to treat central pathologies.
Cochlear Implant Consultaion - Evaluation and consultation to determine candidacy for cochlear implantation.
Tinnitus Retraining Therapy - A neurophysiological approach to treating the tinnitus patient. The therapy involves directive counseling in conjunction with habilitation devices to reduce the negative response to tinnitus. Recent studies have proven this therapy to be effective in 80% of patients.
